Grafting Apple Trees

The FCHS Agriculture program is grateful to Extension Agent Jon Vest for his presentation on grafting apple trees.  Our students were able to take home some of the product and should be enjoying the "fruits" of their labor in about four years!

HOSA Blood Drive

Health Occupations students held a Blood Drive at FCHS on March 20.  Here are some of their reflections on the event:

"I really enjoyed it I learned a lot and I was actually helping people. Also it was my first time giving blood and it was a huge success! I learned that it affects people in different ways and some just cannot handle it.  I learned how important it was to eat something after just giving blood because you can feel weak and its important to replinish. :)" -Diana

"It was enjoyable, I think that it was educational for us as nurse aide students to be able to interact with the American Red Cross during the blood drive. I feel like we learned a lot of things that we did not know before, developed patient care skills, and were able to be in a new type of nursing environment. The blood drive teaches that just one pint of blood can make a difference and that donating is just a simple task that people can do to help out in their community." -Taylor

"The American Red Cross Blood Drive sponsored by HOSA on March 20 was a huge success. I would like to thank each of you for helping out with this very important cause. There were 55 people who presented on the day of the blood drive to donate. Of those 55, ten were deferred and three were unable to complete donation, resulting in the collection of 39 productive units.
As our first blogging assignment, please reflect on the blood drive. Share your thoughts on the importance of blood collection and any suggestions you may have for future blood drives here at the high school." -Mrs. Sutphin

"I think that blood drives are very important because blood is needed everyday. I decided to give blood on march 20th, and although it hurt and a felt week after giving blood, it was worth it. I liked knowing that I could save someone or make a difference in someone’s life. It was definitely worth it, and I wil definitely donate again. I also really enjoyed helping out with the blood drive. I learned a lot about the process, and that certain circumstances in your life can make you ineligable to donate." -Katelyn
